Memorandum

Date:                                          April 2, 2024

To:                                          The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Jessica Pyska, District 5 Supervisor

Subject:                     Consideration of a Letter of Support for Inclusion of Calpine’s The Geysers Facility in the California Leg of the Biden Administration’s “Investing in America” Tour, with U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm

Executive Summary:

As your Board will be aware, the Biden Administration kicked off a fourth “Investing in America Tour” February 15.  On the California leg of this tour, Secretary of Energy, Jennifer M. Granholm, is seeking to highlight growth of the developing “Clean Energy Economy,” including creation of “good paying jobs” and private sector investment.

A tour of Calpine’s The Geysers facility in Lake County is clearly consistent with the intent of this tour.  Calpine has requested that our Board consider providing a Letter of Support for their inclusion, and they believe it will make a meaningful difference in the probability of Secretary Granholm and the Biden Administration accepting their invitation.

I recommend our Board approve the attached Letter of Support and authorize the Chair to sign.
