Subject: (A) Approve the transfer and sale of twenty (20) Remington 870 shotguns from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, (B) Approve acceptance of payment totaling $4,000.00 in accordance with the interagency agreement, (C) Approve the removal of firearms from County of Lake Capitalized Fixed Asset Listing.
Executive Summary: Pursuant to California Penal Code section 30150, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office respectfully requests authorization to transfer and sell twenty (20) department-owned Remington 870, 12-gauge shotguns to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office. California law permits the transfer of firearms between law enforcement agencies upon approval of the respective agency heads and exempts such transactions from standard firearm dealer processing requirements.
The firearms proposed for transfer are serviceable Remington 870 shotguns that were originally purchased with General Fund monies and are currently owned by the County of Lake. These firearms are no longer required for the operational needs of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The proposed transfer supports interagency cooperation and ensures the continued use of this equipment in a law enforcement capacity by a partnering agency.
Prior to transfer, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office has verified the serial numbers, condition, and serviceability of each firearm. A complete serialized inventory is included as an attachment to the signed Department Head Firearm Transfer Letter, as authorized under Penal Code section 30150. Upon delivery and acceptance, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office will assume responsibility for entering the firearms into the California Department of Justice Automated Firearms System (AFS) as institutional weapons, in full compliance with state requirements.
The agreed-upon sale price is two hundred dollars ($200.00) per shotgun, for a total transaction amount of four thousand dollars ($4,000.00). Payment will be completed through an interagency financial transfer or another mutually agreed-upon method.
Upon completion of the transfer, the firearms will be removed from the County of Lake Capitalized Fixed Asset Listing.
