Memorandum

Date:                                          January 7, 2025

To:                                          The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Mireya G. Turner, Community Development Director

Subject:                     Consideration of Resignation of Lake County Fire Chiefs Association from the Cannabis Ordinance Task Force, and Request to Remove the Position from Task Force Membership

Executive Summary: The Cannabis Ordinance Task Force (COTF) was formed by the Board of Supervisors on July 12, 2022, to develop recommendations to update and streamline the County’s Cannabis Policy. The COTF includes eight positions including North and South County Residents, cannabis industry, Farm Bureau, Conventional Agriculture, Lake County Cannabis Alliance, Tribal Representative, and Fire District Representative.

On December 3, 2024, Staff received a letter of resignation from the Lake County Fire Chiefs Association. Due to their demanding schedules, they are no longer able to provide a representative for the COTF. In follow up discussions, they recommended that the Fire District Representative position be removed from the COTF, rather than fill it with someone outside of the Fire Chiefs Association.

The input from the fire representatives have been very helpful as the Task Force has navigated through a long list of cannabis policy issues. When the draft Ordinance is ready for review, it will be sent to the Fire Chiefs for their input. At this late stage of COTF, the absence of a fire district representative will not negatively impact their progress.

Staff recommends the Board of Supervisors amend the roster of the Cannabis Ordinance Task Force to remove the Fire District Representative position.
