Subject: Approve Request to Close the Front Counter of the Lake County Special Districts Department Administration office between 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm for Lunch and from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm to the Public

The Special Districts Department requests the Board's approval to close the Department office to the public between 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm for lunch and from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Due to current staffing shortages and to ensure reduced overtime we are requesting to adjust office hours to ensure adequate coverage and maintain efficient office operations. This closure will allow staff to take scheduled lunch breaks from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm while allowing others that take the traditional lunch breaks to conduct business from 12:00 - 12:30pm.
Additionally, all employees responsible for cash handling are required to close out and balance their cash drawers at the end of each business day before leaving. This procedure is necessary to maintain accountability, ensure accurate financial records, and facilitate smooth daily operations. The closure to the public will allow staff to close out their cash drawers and address any potential issues without needing to maintain front-desk coverage. Special Districts administration has three positions that operate the front counter and help the public. Due to vacancies and one staff out on leave, there is only one front-counter employee.
The Department Staff will remain in the office during the 4:00 - 5:00 pm closure to respond to emergencies and maintain essential water and wastewater services via telephone. All customers in the office before 4:00 pm will be assisted. The telephones will be transferred to our answering service during the lunch hour.
