Date:                                          February 4, 2024

To:                                          The Honorable E.J. Crandell, Chair, Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Susan Parker, County Administrative Officer

Terre Logsdon, Chief Climate Resiliency Officer/Tribal Liaison

Subject:                     Consideration of a Letter of Support for the Lake-Napa Private, Public, Community Based Organization, and Tribal Government Collaborative Forest Health Project

Executive Summary:

The Napa Communities Firewise Foundation is seeking a letter of support for their grant application to CAL FIRE’s Forest Health Grant Program to restore forests and increase wildfire resiliency/community safety on approximately 3,000 acres of public and private forests along the Lake-Napa County border in a region that generally follows State Highway 29 in the Middletown area

This project seeks to repair and rehabilitate the forested areas affected by the Valley (2015) and LNU (2020) fires. This includes removing an abundance of dead material on the forest floor and dead and weakened trees, conduct seed collection from local conifers for reforestation, support the Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indians’ cultural burning of all forest and wildlands on their Rancheria on new acquired trust lands, improve forest health at the Montesol Ranch adjacent to Robert Louis Stevenson State Park and restore habitat on BLM lands.
