Memorandum

Date:                                          February 27, 2024

To:                                          The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Fish and Wildlife Advisory Committee

Subject:                     Consideration of Lake County Fish and Wildlife Advisory Committee’s Recommendation to Allocate $8,000 from the Fish and Game Fund to Support the 2024 Clearlake Science Symposium.

Executive Summary:

A Clearlake Integrated Science Symposium will provide agencies, researchers, practitioners, Tribes, and the general public an opportunity to share their research, data, and efforts with collaborators and public partners. Funds approved today by the BOS will allow the Lake County Fish and Wildlife Advisory Committee (LCFWAC) to sponsor the Clear Lake hitch and wildlife session(s).

Sponsoring these special sessions (s) allows the LCFWAC to connect directly with the public and efficiently fulfill their charge as described in the Resolution (#2023-38) passed by the Board of Supervisors to “Hold public meetings, workshops, or presentations on topics of local, state, and federal significance relative to fish and wildlife conservation, recreation, and protection” (Powers & Functions #4).

The Symposium is expecting and planning for an in-person attendance goal of approximately 200 people, with remote viewing options. The output of this science summit will be cutting-edge scientific information (via a digital binder containing videos, slide presentations, reports, etc.) and guidance (webpages with explanatory text and hyperlinks) on how to continue accessing research relating to applied science, research, and management.

The symposium will be held in Lake County on Thursday, August 15th, and Friday, August 16th, 2024, tentatively being held at Robinson Rancheria Conference Center. The dates for this symposium were selected to align with the Clear Lake Hitch Federal Endangered Species Act Listing Decision which is expected in early 2025.
