Subject:                     10:00 A.M. - Consideration and Discussion of the Broadband Implementation Plan and Update on Broadband Initiatives

Executive Summary:

The County contracted with CBG Communications to build upon the 2023 Lake County Master Broadband Plan Update with the Lake County Broadband Implementation Plan. The Implementation Plan is designed to identify actions, initiatives, and strategic directions that the County can take soon or longer term. The Implementation Plan has eight sections: deployment strategies so all Community Anchor Institutions have internet access at 1 gigabit per second, rights-of-way management processes and procedures, partnerships and collaborations with broadband providers, improving reliability and resiliency of broadband systems, regional cooperation for the benefit of Lake County residents, advocacy and grant funding, expanding public access to broadband - including working with community partners, and continuing outreach and engagement with the public regarding broadband planning efforts.

An update will also be provided on the State’s middle-mile broadband network remaining 83.5 miles to be installed in Lake County, the State’s Last Mile Federal Fund Account $28.4 million Lake County allocation for fiber installation to households in unserved and underserved areas, the upcoming Broad Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program, Golden State Connect Authority’s planned open access network, and the State Digital Equity Capacity Subgrant program.
