Executive Summary:

DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF AUGUST 2026 AS CHILD SUPPORT AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS, Child Support Awareness Month is proudly observed each August in California and across the nation, recognizing the essential role child support plays in strengthening families, enhancing children’s wellbeing, and promoting services and policies that help parents provide consistent and meaningful support; and

WHEREAS, This annual observance reminds us of our shared responsibility to champion resources, fairness, and collaboration, so every child has the opportunity to thrive; and

WHEREAS, Lake County Child Support Services has recently made extraordinary progress, advancing more in the past five years than in the previous five decades, and these improvements have created a system that is more equitable, more modern, and more responsive to the needs of families; and

WHEREAS, Lake County’ Child Support Services team is committed to continuing reforms, supporting policies that promote fairness, expand access, and reinforce family stability, and the program continues to offer free assistance to parents who pay child support and ensure services remain low-cost or cost-free for those who depend on them, helping families build long-term security and success; and

WHEREAS, the dedicated professionals in Child Support Services are committed to supporting families and honoring the diverse circumstances each one faces, while recognizing every situation is unique and deserving of thoughtful consideration, and their work centers on fostering steady, dependable support and strengthening stability for both parents and children; and

WHEREAS, across California, the focus remains on directing payments straight to families, removing unnecessary barriers, and reducing the stress, delays, and costs associated with private agencies or legal proceedings, and this advocacy-driven approach keeps families at the forefront and ensures support reaches those who most need it.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Lake hereby designates August 2026 as Child Support Awareness Month in Lake County.
