Subject: Approve travel exceeding 1,500 miles for Deputy County Administrative Officer, Casey Moreno, to attend the Government Finance Officers Association Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. from June 28, 2025 to July 3, 2025
Executive Summary:
Staff is requesting the Board’s approval for Casey Moreno to travel in excess of 1,500 miles to the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Annual Conference at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. from June 28 to July 3, 2025. As a GFOA member, Ms. Moreno regularly attends seminars and trainings, both in person and virtual.
GFOA represents the entire United States and Canada. This annual conference is held in a different state each year, and it provides detailed training regarding federal, state/provincial, and local finance. This year, the conference will feature over 70 accredited sessions that will address current issues facing government finance, inspiring keynote sessions, interactive discussions, leadership workshops, and networking opportunities. Topics include but not limited to: Accounting and Financial Reporting; Capital Planning; Budgeting and Forecasting; Leadership; Ethics and Trust; Business Process Improvement; Procurement; and Economic Development. All areas will be of value to DCAO Moreno’s area of responsibility in the Administrative Office and will benefit her work with all County departments.
The travel will cost no more than $3,800 and includes registration, hotel, airfare, transportation to and from airport (no airport shuttle), all meals not included in registration, and parking at airport.
