Subject: Approve (a) Consideration of Public Health Officer Appointment, and, (b) Ratify Physician Consultation Services Contract
Executive Summary:
This item is being submitted as an “extra” agenda item. The justification for this request to consider an item not on the posted agenda is as follows.
After your Board accepted the Public Health Officer’s resignation on June 21, 2002, I learned that a replacement would be delayed in order to fully develop the scope and complete the administrative review and State approval. I was also informed by the Department of Health Services, that the ongoing public health mandates created an immediate and urgent need to ensure that a Public Health Officer (PHO) or alternate was available to provide those services.
During this process, I was still evaluating our options to ensure continuity of services. As such, I was unable to confirm the full range of related medical services including the back-up PHO services until after the posting of this agenda. Therefore, I authorized this very temporary appointment and have now brought the contract to your Board to ratify.
Because of the urgency presented, the agreement should be considered for ratification by your Board as soon as practically possible.
Staff recommends appointing Gary Pace, M.D. as the Public Health Officer and ratify the Physician Consultation Services contract.
