Date:                                          January 9, 2024

To:                                          The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Jessica Pyska, District 5 Supervisor

Terre Logsdon, Chief Climate Resiliency Officer

Subject:                     Consideration of Letter of Commitment to Cal Fire for a Grant Application to provide funding for the LiDAR derivatives from the recent North Coast LiDAR Acquisition project and authorize the Chair to sign

Executive Summary:

Your Board will recall that as part of a United States Geological Survey and California Department of Natural Resources-funded North Coast LiDAR Acquisition project, data has been collected for Lake County. This data will be processed in 2024. To make this data publicly available and useful to the public, it undergoes another process to create “derivatives” of the LiDAR data.

The County of Lake has partnered with Tukman Geospatial, who will create these derivatives after funding is secured that will allow the County of Lake as well as local agencies to:

Allow a strategic approach to reducing wildfire risk informed by high quality data,

Creation of fine-scale wildfire hazard and risk data layers, tools and maps to support efficient and effective wildfire risk planning throughout the county.

The data sets and tools will be compatible with those created or in process in Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Marin, San Mateo, Napa, and Sonoma counties to support region wide planning and analysis.

Grant award expected mid to late May 2024.
