Subject: a) Consideration of a Letter of Support for the “Cumulative Health Impacts of Cascading Environmental Hazards on Rural Communities Project,” and b) Consideration of the Chief Climate Resiliency Officer and Tribal Liaison Serving on Community Advisory Board of the Project
Executive Summary:
The overarching goal of this project is to identify and mitigate the cumulative mental and physical health impacts of cascading environmental hazards on rural communities facing significant health challenges. These communities are disproportionately affected by cascading hazards due to limited resources and lack of infrastructure. Focusing on Lake County, California, the project aims to quantify these cumulative health impacts of cascading hazards, including chemical (e.g., air and water pollution) and non-chemical stressors (e.g., disaster-driven losses, social disruption). The project outcomes empower informed decision-making to improve the health and resilience of rural communities facing significant health challenges exacerbated by environmental cascading hazards.
This project would also like the Chief Climate Resiliency Officer and Tribal Liaison to serve as a member of the Advisory Board for the project. Those duties would include:
1. Assessing and providing feedback on research progress every 6 months;
2. Joining project conference calls or advising as research questions arise; and
3. Providing insight on the integration of this project's findings and outputs with ongoing efforts in Lake County for a total commitment of about 12 hours per year for the next five years.
