Subject: Approve Long Distance Travel for Diana Duran, Adult Services Program Manager, Thomas Swanson, APS Supervisor, Catherine Sims, APS Social Worker to attend the NAPSA Annual Conference training in Boston, Massachusetts from August 27- September 1, 2023
Executive Summary:
The National Adult Protective Services Association (NAPSA) Conference is the only national conference that focuses solely on Adult Protective Services (APS). The Adult Services, APS unit regularly utilizes trainings available through this association. The 34th annual NAPSA Conference- Advancing with Purpose and Strength, will take place in Boston, Massachusetts.
APS, under the direction of the Department of Social Services, is requesting approval to send Diana Duran, Adult Services Program Manager, Thomas Swanson, APS Social Worker Supervisor, and Catherine Sims, APS Social Worker to this valuable training opportunity. Classes and workshops on the agenda that will be of immediate usefulness to APS include innovative practice, cutting edge research and new initiatives moving the field of APS forward.
Lake County has a disproportionately large senior population and it is critical that we expand our knowledge and expertise to support this population.
Therefore, pursuant to 1.3, D, of the County of Lake Travel Policy, we request your Board approve travel to Boston, Massachusetts to access this beneficial training. DSS will be using COVID-19 funds earmarked for APS that are set to expire in September 2023.
Estimated cost is for conference registration, airfare, transportation and lodging for three staff.
