Subject: (a) Approve the purchase of 8 commercial grade fitness items; and (b) Authorize the Sheriff/Coroner or his designee to issue and sign a purchase order not to exceed $50,000 to 360 Fitness Store, 727 Francisco Blvd., San Rafael, Ca.
Executive Summary: The Officer Wellness and Mental Health Grant Program, was established in the 2022 Budget Act (Assembly Bill 178, Chapter 45, Statutes of 2022), and provided $50 million for city and county law enforcement agencies for the purpose of improving officer wellness and expanding mental health sources. The funding may be used for any of the following purposes:
• Establishing or expanding officer wellness units
• Establishing or expanding peer support units
• Services provided by a licensed mental health professional, counselor or other professional that works with law enforcement
• Expanding multiagency mutual aid programs focused on officer wellness and mental health
• Other programs and services that are evidence-based or have a successful track record of enhancing officer wellness
• Purchase of gym equipment
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was awarded $64,592 from this grant. These funds are budgeted in the Sheriff/Coroner budget 2201/62.74. To address improvements in our deputies’ physical/mental well-being, we request approval to purchase the commercial-grade fitness equipment listed below:
1. 2 -Lifefitness Club Series+ Treadmills with SL Console, Color-Black Onyx, Add-On Premium Equipment Mat
2. 2 -Lifefitness Club Series+Elliptical Cross Trainers with SL Console with Add-On Premium Equipment Mat
3. 1-Hammer Strength Plate-Loaded ISO-Lateral Incline Press, Color-Black
4. 1-Hammer Strength Select Tricep Extension Machine, Color-Black
5. 1-Hammer Strength Select Pectoral Fly/Rear Deltoid Machine, Color-Black
6. 1-Hammer Strength Plate-Loaded Linear Leg Press
The Sheriff’s Office requested quotes from five separate vendors and received three quotes responsive to the request. Of the three requests, 360 Fitness Superstore was the only vendor that was able to provide a quote for the specific brand and models requested. The two other vendors substituted alternatives, but some of the substituted items were not comparable to the requested items. After carefully comparing the like alternatives to the brand and models requested, we found that some of the warranties for the brand and models requested were far superior to the alternative items. Therefore, we request your Board’s approval to purchase the listed items from 360 Fitness Superstore in the amount of $49,767.82.
