From:                                          Benjamin Rickelman, Deputy County Administrative Officer

Subject:                     Consideration and Discussion of the Lake County Healthcare Innovation and Simulation Center Letter of Support for the Redwood Region RISE Catalyst Fund

Executive Summary:

The Lake County Healthcare Innovation and Simulation Center (LCHISC) is an exploratory and workforce development center currently in pre-development. There are three main components to the center: the SPARK Program for elementary and middle school students, healthcare work-based learning and development programs, and community outreach. It is anticipated that the build-out of the facility and the first year of programming will be approximately $8.7 million with the project delivering in 2-4 years. The Lake County Economic Development Corporation is the lead agency for the pre-development phase of the project.

One potential funding source for the LCHISC is the Redwood Region RISE Catalyst Fund, which is part of the California Jobs First initiative. The Catalyst Fund will award up to $9 million to economic development projects in its region (Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, and Lake Counties). Catalyst Fund applications are due January 15, 2025. Attached is an overview of the LCHISC for further detail.
