Subject:                     Approve the Uniform and Equipment Allowance Requested by the Animal Control Department for Uniforms and Equipment needed for Animal Control Officers.    

 

Executive Summary:

Presented to your Boards approval is the Uniform and Equipment Allowance requested by Animal Control Department for uniforms and equipment needed for Animal Control Officers.  

 

 2.6. UNIFORM ALLOWANCE

All employees assigned by their department head to wear a uniform shall have such uniform provided by the COUNTY.

 

2.6.1 ANIMAL CARE & CONTROL UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT ALLOWANCE

Eligible employees of the Animal Control Department shall be entitled to receive an

allowance for uniforms and equipment. Newly hired Animal Control Officers shall receive their initial uniform / equipment allowance of fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500) upon appointment; however, if they fail to complete the first year of employment, the uniform/equipment allowance shall be returned, on a pro-rated basis, to the COUNTY. 

 

Each member of the Animal Care & Control Department occupying a permanent full-time position as an Animal Control Officer, who is regularly required to wear a designated uniform in the performance of their duties, shall be paid an allowance of one hundred twenty-five (125.00) for each month of service, or major portion thereof, payable on a monthly basis.

 

1.                     Required items of apparel furnished by employee:

a.                     Navy Blue BOU 6 pocket pants or shorts

b.                     Tan shirts, short or long sleeves (Polo Shirts ok)

c.                     (Embroidered badge & name on front, patches on shoulder, AC on back)

d.                     Navy Blue T-shirt

e.                     Black Tie

f.                     Black Belt

g.                     Black Duty Belt

h.                     Pepper spray holder

i.                     Radio holder

j.                     Maglite Holder

k.                     Key holder

l.                     Black low quarter shoes or high-top boots

m.                     Navy Blue uniform jacket with shoulder patches and badge clearly

 

2.                     Required items to be furnished by the Department:

a.                     Shoulder patches worn 1" (inch) below shoulder seams on uniform shirt and jackets.

b.                     Two Animal Care & Control badges (one worn on left side of shirt and one on jacket tab).

c.                     Name plate (worn on right pocket seam of shirt or jacket).

d.                     Rubber boots

e.                     Plastic raincoat (yellow advised for safety reasons-example: night calls of injured dogs on the highway)

f.                     Maglite, 3 'C' size

g.                     3 oz. can pepper spray

h.                     Reflective vest for night time operations (mandatory after sunset)

i.                     Kevlar Vest

 

3.                     Optional items to be furnished by the Employee

a.                     Overshoes, etc.

b.                     Any other items desired on duty belt

c.                     Navy Turtleneck undershirt with long sleeve uniform shirt.

d.                     Kevlar Vest Jacket approved by the Department

 

5.6.2. Change of Uniforms

The COUNTY shall provide advance notice to the ASSOCIATION on uniform

changes being considered. Upon request, the COUNTY shall provide the

opportunity to meet with the ASSOCIATION regarding these matters.
