WHEREAS, after two years of service and dedication as an Appointed member of the Lake County Board of Supervisors, Michael S. Green is retiring from the Board on January 7, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Green was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom on October 21, 2022, and subscribed to his Oath of Office on October 26, 2022, to represent District 4, which includes Lakeport, Scotts Valley, Highland Springs, Riviera Heights, together constituting the largest agricultural area in Lake County; and
WHEREAS, he previously served the community as a Lakeport Planning Commissioner and Lakeport City Councilmember, where he was known for tough conversations to ensure local policies were effective and represented all stakeholders; and
WHEREAS, Green played a seminal role in securing declaration of a “Clear Lake Hitch Emergency,” which resulted in ongoing efforts to improve conditions for the endangered species, and funded additional staff positions in Water Resources, promoting healthier ecosystems for generations to come; and
WHEREAS, he was additionally a valued contributor to 2023’s “Honoring All Voices” Community Visioning Forum Series and the Countywide committee that sponsored those events, which provided the opportunity to listen and learn from members of the public, promoting inclusion, community healing, and respect, and participants were heartened by Supervisor Green’s courage and eagerness to learn the experiences of others; and
WHEREAS, as Supervisor, Green has likewise been appointed to several Boards and Commissions, including First 5 Commission, the Blue Ribbon Committee for the Rehabilitation of Clear Lake, the Emergency Medical Care Committee, Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council, Mental Health Advisory Board, North Coast Emergency Medical Service, and Scotts Valley Advisory Council; and
WHEREAS, Michael S. Green is known for his tremendous meeting preparation, digging into the agenda items, researching laws and ordinances, and asking clarifying questions to encourage transparency and keep the public well informed and engaged in local government; and
WHEREAS, his attention to detail and journalistic nose for finding the thread in a story have brought unique and rich contributions to Board discussions, leaving an indelible mark.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Lake does hereby commend Supervisor Michael S. Green for his service to the people of Lake County and relentless support of environmental and ecological protection, local businesses, and government accountability, and we extend to our colleague and friend best wishes for good health, happiness and great success in the years ahead.
