Memorandum

Date:                                          June 27, 2023

To:                                          The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Matthew Rothstein, Deputy County Administrative Officer

Subject:                     Consideration of District and Board of Supervisors Newsletter Options

Executive Summary:

During your Board’s Budget Hearing of Thursday, June 15, Chair Pyska raised the idea of preparing and distributing regular District-specific or Board of Supervisors Newsletters.

Multiple members of your Board voiced support for development of Newsletters by District.  Updates and input are regularly provided by members of your Board in Town Hall meetings and/or in collaboration with members of City Councils.  Having a written document that can be readily shared may enhance these updates, and help ensure consistency of messaging.

There was some discussion, as well, regarding whether each Supervisor would prepare a Newsletter, or support would be provided by staff.

Staff review, at a minimum, to perform minor edits and ensure messaging on major County projects is consistent across Districts may be reasonable.

If desirable, Staff could also provide a greater level of support in preparing language, provided members of your Board are able to relay what information should be included (e.g. bullet points with essential information), and capture images that would otherwise require travel time.

A highly flexible Newsletter template is included here to enhance your Board’s discussion, and staff will look forward to your discussion, consensus-building and resulting direction.
