Memorandum
Date: July 15, 2025
To: The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors
From: Anthony Arton, Health Services Director
Subject: Consideration of Amendment 1 to Professional Services Contract with Anju Goel, MD, MPH for an Increase in the Maximum Compensation Amount to $100,000
Executive Summary:
Lake County Health Services (LCHS) has an active contract with Anju Goel, MD, MPH for Public Health Officer (PHO) services from April 1, 2025 through September 30, 2025.
Dr. Goel’s extensive experience and qualifications have served LCHS and Lake County well. Her appointment to this temporary PHO position has ensured continuity and effectiveness of LCHS operations and has avoided the lapse of coverage and services to our community that we faced with the resignation of the previous PHO.
The initial contract has a maximum compensation not to exceed forty-nine thousand eight hundred sixty dollars ($49,860) per year. Unfortunately, the hourly requirements for Dr. Goel’s services will result in charges exceeding this amount due to initial training requirements and complicated communicable disease cases.
LCHS has recently completed a Request for Proposals (RFP) for temporary and back-up PHO services and the County has recently appointed a new PHO scheduled to start in September. LCHS respectfully requests that your board approve this amendment to avoid a lapse of PHO coverage and services while we work through negotiations and the contract process with our RFP respondents and await the arrival of the incoming PHO.
Staff recommend approval of the amendment.
