Memorandum

Date:                                          August 19, 2025

To:                                          The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Jessica Pyska, District 5 Supervisor

                      Helen Owen, District 1 Supervisor

Subject:                     Approve Use of Staff Time Exceeding 8 Hours in Support of September 12 and 13 Valley Fire Observances

Executive Summary:

Valley Fire anniversary events are being planned for Friday, September 12, and Saturday, September 13, in Districts 1 and 5, in collaboration with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services, Cobb Area Council, Middletown Area Town Hall, South Lake Fire Protection District, and community organizations.  Both events will be open to all members of the public.

We are requesting assistance from County Administrative Office staff to coordinate with the Sheriff’s office in organizing invitations to federal, state, and local leaders, press releases, and public relations for the events.  Minimal Counsel support is likewise also needed, as the events are not expected to be held on County property.

Additionally, we want to recognize the role all departments have played in the immediate response to the disaster, recovery, and the progress that has been made over the past decade in disaster preparedness.  Invitations will therefore be extended to all Department Heads to participate in the event on Friday, September 12, event, at 1 pm in the Cobb Area.

All members of this Board will appreciate the Valley Fire was a significant event in Lake County’s history, and appropriately observing this 10th Anniversary provides opportunity to recognize a diversity of contributors and further assist in the healing process of those affected.

We recommend our Board approve use of staff time exceeding 8 hours in support of September 12 and 13 Valley Fire observances
