Memorandum
Date: February 27, 2024
To: The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors
From: Jessica Pyska, District 5 Supervisor
Subject: Consideration of a Letter of Support for California Coastal Conservancy LiDAR Derivatives Funding
Executive Summary:
As you will be aware, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and California Department of Conservation recently funded collection of LiDAR data throughout Lake County. That initial collection is complete, and data is being refined over the course of 2024. In order for this data to be most usable for natural resource and fuels management and other purposes, LiDAR derivates additionally need to be developed. You may recall, the County has included LiDAR Derivatives in multiple recent grant applications approved by our Board.
On Thursday, February 22, 2024, we were made aware the California Coastal Conservancy is considering funding a LiDAR derivative development project encompassing a larger area, in collaboration with at least the North Coast Resource Partnership (NCRP) and Coastal San Luis Resource Conservation District.
The Coastal Conservancy asked Tukman Geospatial, with whom the County has partnered in development of multiple recent Grant Applications, to provide a detailed Proposal by end of day Friday, February 23, 2024. Tukman Geospatial asked for a Letter of Support from Lake County to include with this Proposal.
Given this is an established County priority and the quick turnaround required, I sent the attached Letter of Support on my Letterhead to support Lake County's inclusion in the Proposal. I am now asking that our full Board ratify this Letter of Support.
