Memorandum
Date: April 2, 2024
To: The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors
From: Shane French, Information Technology Director
Subject: Waive the formal bidding process and authorize the IT Director to issue a PO to Berkeley Communications in the amount of $49,846.19 for the NS224 disk shelf, support, and services
Executive Summary:
As the County's need for data storage continually increases, is necessary to periodically add storage resources for departmental use. This year, the IT department requested an allocation of $50,000 to add a Netapp disk shelf to our existing storage.
We have received a heavily discounted quote from our existing vendor, Berkeley Communications, for a disk shelf and software/support services in the amount of $49,846.19. This quote represents a discount of over 75% from the MSRP of the system. We recognize that this is an outstanding discount and one we would not normally receive. The discount is only good through Netapp's end-of-fiscal-year on 4/17/2024.
Due to the outstanding pricing and time-sensitive nature of the discount, we are requesting an exemption to competitive bidding under section 2-38B because the competitive bidding process would produce no economic benefit in this case.
