Subject: Approve SafeRx grant application for the California Overdose Prevention Network Coalition Funding for $75,000 per Year for 3 Years

Executive Summary:
The California Overdose Prevention Network (COPN), based at PHI Center for Health Leadership and Impact (CHLI) and funded by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is pleased to release the following funding opportunity for local overdose prevention coalitions to reduce overdose deaths from illicitly manufactured fentanyl and other drugs through implementation of overdose prevention, treatment, and harm reduction strategies. Multi-sector coalitions are encouraged to apply for this opportunity to fortify and sustain strategies that are responsive to local needs in their community and/or region. Funded coalitions will receive one of two funding tiers ($45k per year or $75k per year) based on the number of objectives included in their workplan.

SafeRx is going for the full $75,000 per year and the application is due on December 6th. Notification if awarded will be on January 13th, 2025.

The grant agreement, if awarded, will run from January 1st, 2025 - August 30th, 2027

The seven grant objectives SafeRx has chosen for its workplan include:

1. Expand overdose prevention education, awareness, and/or stigma reduction
2. Improve access to medication assisted treatment (MAT) and recovery services
3. Increase availability of harm reduction sources and services
4. Implement prevention, treatment, and/or harm reduction strategies with youth across the lifespan
5. Integrate local strategies and services to address polysubstance use
6. Increase outreach and overdose prevention interventions with a high-risk population (e.g., justice-involved, people who are unhoused, pregnant, veterans, older adults, youth)
