Memorandum

Date: April 20, 2023

To: The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors

From: Chief Probation Officer Wendy Mondfrans

Subject: Approve Amendment to the Agreement between the County of Tehama and County of Lake for the housing of juvenile offenders for an amount not to exceed $250,000; and authorize the Chair to Sign.

Executive Summary:

On August 23, 2022, an Agreement between the County of Tehama and the County of Lake was approved by this Board for the housing of juvenile offenders. That Agreement had a cap of $150,000 per year. Since that time, the number of juvenile offenders has increased, and the State of California is closing the Division of Juvenile Justice which housed offenders who committed more serious crimes. As a result, the anticipated annual expense for the housing of juveniles by the Probation Department has increased, and it is anticipated that the expense will continue into the future.

The Probation Department anticipates that the cost of housing juveniles will not exceed $250,000 annually based on the numbers of juveniles incarcerated this year. This Amendment will cover that expense. This amount was budgeted for in this year's and next year's budgets.
