Memorandum

Date: February 7, 2023

To: The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors

From: Shane French, Information Technology Director

Subject: a) Consideration of creation of Section 19 of the "Board of Supervisors, County of Lake, CA, Policies and Procedures Manual," and; b) Consideration of approval of Section 19.1 Acceptable Use Policy

Executive Summary:
The County of Lake does not currently have a formalized Acceptable Use Policy in place. Currently, new employees are asked to sign the 'Rules and Regulations for Internet and Email Use' document. This document is limited in scope and lacks some of the requirements and details typically found in an Acceptable use Policy.

The Information Technology Department, in collaboration with the Technology Governance Committee, has prepared the attached draft policy for your consideration.

The purpose of this policy is to clearly communicate what actions and activities are, and are not, appropriate for employees and contractors using County Information Systems.

I am recommending your Board authorize the creation of a new policy manual section (Section 19) that will contain this and future Information Technology related policies.

Additionally, I am recommending that your Board approve the attached Acceptable Use Policy as Section 19.1.
