Subject: Presentation of Proclamation Designating the Month of April 2026 as Celebrate Diversity Month in Lake County
Executive Summary:
WHEREAS, Celebrate Diversity Month has been observed each April since 2004, honoring the contributions by individuals of every gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, faith, sexual orientation, gender identity, and ability, among many other factors and intersectionality; and
WHEREAS, appreciating diversity encourages inclusivity and creates a more welcoming environment for people from all backgrounds, and by learning about other cultures and experiences, individuals can gain greater understanding of the challenges and struggles faced by people in different circumstances; and
WHEREAS, when people celebrate their differences and are open to diversity, common stereotypes are challenged, promoting a more nuanced and complex understanding of different cultures and backgrounds, and can highlight variety within communities, showcasing unique strengths and talents; and
WHEREAS, embracing diversity helps combat discrimination, racism, and other constructs that seed division, by creating awareness of the importance of accepting and valuing people of differing upbringings and identities; and
WHEREAS, by bringing people from different experiences together, diversity fosters creativity and innovation, leading to new ideas, perspectives, and solutions to problems, enhances personal growth, and encourages greater empathy and compassion for others; and
