Subject: Consideration of a Letter of Support for the County of Lake's Safe Roads and Streets for All Planning and Demonstration Grant Application
Executive Summary:
The County of Lake Department of Public Works is preparing an application for a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Planning and Demonstration Grant from the United States Department of Transportation that is due on June 26, 2025
The U.S. Department of Transportation has two types of SS4A grants: (1) Planning and Demonstration Grants and (2) Implementation Grants.
Planning and Demonstration Grants fund the preparation and development of a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (Action Plan). The purpose of the action plan is to develop a holistic, well-defined strategy to prevent roadway fatalities and serious injuries in the community.
Implementation Grants fund the design and construction of projects identified in the Action Plan. To be eligible for an Implementation Grant, the County must have a certified Action Plan. The County does not have a certified Action Plan, so it is not eligible for SS4A Implementation Grants to perform design and/or construction.
In FY2026, the Lake Area Planning Council (Lake APC) intends to update the County's Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP Update) so the LRSP Update conforms to requirements of a certified Action Plan. Th projects listed below will be included in the LRSP Update. When LRSP Update is adopted by the Board of Supervisor, the County will be eligible to apply for an implementation grant for projects listed below.
