Memorandum
Date: February 25, 2025
To: The Honorable E.J. Crandell, Chair, Lake County Board of Supervisors
From: Brad Rasmussen, District 4 Supervisor
Subject: Consideration of the Administration/Human Resources and Public Services Departments to implement an Intern Program in Fiscal Years 2024/2025 & 2025/2026
Executive Summary:
I am seeking to authorize an intern program for local high school and college students with the goal of county workforce development, community engagement, exposure to public service careers and succession planning. Although it has been some time since the county employed any interns, existing rules, policies and procedures allow for their employment. However, staff in human resources, administration and potentially involved department heads would need to spend more than 8 hours of time to implement the program.
The Administration/Human Resources Department and the Public Services Department are both interested and have meaningful work available to employ interns this summer. I intend to sponsor one intern in each of those departments over this coming summer, using District 4 discretionary funding. The total cost for these two interns is estimated at $25,000.00.
If the supervisors agree, others could also sponsor interns for departments that may also be interested.
