Memorandum
Date: April 2, 2024
To: The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors
From: Scott De Leon, Water Resources Director, and Mitchell Breedlove, Program Coordinator
Subject: 9:30 a.m. Presentation of Update on 2024 Drought Conditions and Drought-Related Projects
Executive Summary:
As California enters its second consecutive wet rain year, the sight of Clear Lake's water levels exceeding full capacity may divert our attention from the potential threat of drought. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that within the next year or two, water shortages could emerge as a significant concern.
The Water Resources Department will therefore provide a brief update on drought conditions and drought-related projects. In a brief presentation, Water Resources staff will provide:
1. An overview of the current state and local drought status along with the projected outlook.
2. Updates on existing state drought declarations.
3. Discussion on the county's plans to formulate a Lake County Drought Resilience Plan under the State-provided Direct Technical Assistance Program, including anticipated timelines for public participation and updates to the Board of Supervisors during the plan's development.
4. A brief overview of additional departmental projects directly or indirectly addressing drought, water flow, or water conservation concerns.
Water Resources Staff will be presenting to the Board and the public.
