Subject: 10:05 A.M. - PUBLIC HEARING - Consideration of Draft Resolution Adopting the Lake County Climate Adaptation Plan
Executive Summary:
The Lake County Climate Adaptation Plan (CAP) provides a comprehensive, countywide framework to reduce climate related risk and builds long-term resilience for Lake County communities, infrastructure, ecosystems, and the local economy. The CAP addresses increasing wildfire risk, extreme heat, drought, flooding, degraded air quality and other climate driven hazards that affect residents and are projected to intensify in the coming decades.
This plan was developed in collaboration with the City of Clearlake and City of Lakeport through the Planning for an Equitable Climate Safe Lake Project, funded by the California Governor's Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation through the Adaptation Planning Grant Program. Adoption of the CAP will better position Lake County to coordinate resilience efforts, integrate climate adaptation into County planning and investment decisions, and remain competitive for State and Federal funding opportunities.
The CAP is organized around the Lake County's Pillars of Landscape Resilience, adopted by the County Office of Climate Resiliency in 2022, and provides strategies across ten interconnected focus areas, including fire-adapted communities, water security, social and cultural well-being and economic diversity. The Lake County Climate Adaptation Plan supports compliance with SB379 and compliments Lake County 2050 General Plan Update, the Multi-Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan, and the Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
