Memorandum
Date: March 31, 2021
To: The Honorable Bruno Sabatier, Chairman, Lake County Board of Supervisors
From: Brian L. Martin, Sheriff/Coroner
Subject: (a) Approve the purchase of a 2021 Honda Pioneer 1000-5 Utility Terrain Vehicle, for use by the Search and Rescue Team, and (b) authorize the Sheriff or his designee to sign the purchase order.
Executive Summary: The Sheriff's Office is requesting the Board of Supervisors authorize the purchase of a 2021 Honda Pioneer 1000-5, a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) for use by the Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team.
The Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team responds to approximately twenty (20) searches each year in Lake County. The majority of these searches are in rural areas and forest lands of the county. Off highway vehicles such as this UTV are used for searching vast areas of roads and trails in a fraction of the time that it would take ground searchers to cover the same area. Additionally this UTV offers the ability to transport search teams to their designated search areas that are not accessible by trucks, and also to be able to extract missing, lost, or injured citizens back to safety.
A request for bid was issued to three (3) vendors on March 23, 2021, a copy of which is attached for your review. One (1) bid was received and the outcome is as follows:
Hillside Powersports Marine - $24,995.95
Motosports of Ukiah - Unable to obtain requested equipment
Factory Powersports - No Response
Funding for this purchase is budgeted in the Sheriff's Search and Rescue budget 2218, object code 62.74. These monies were received through donations and this purchase is not being paid for with county general funds.
