Subject: Presentation of Proclamation Designating June 2026 as Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness Month in Lake County
Executive Summary:
DESIGNATING JUNE 2026 AS ELDER AND DEPENDENT ADULT
ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH IN LAKE COUNTY
WHEREAS, Lake County's elders and dependent adults are valued members of our community who deserve to be treated with respect, dignity and compassion; and
WHEREAS, elder and dependent adult abuse, including physical, emotional, financial, and neglect, is a serious and often underreported issue that affects individuals, families, and communities; and
WHEREAS, the County of Lake recognizes the importance of taking action to create social change, prioritize the prevention of elder and dependent adult abuse and raise awareness to foster a better understanding of abuse, neglect, and the rights of older adults; and
WHEREAS, education, outreach, and collaboration among local organizations, law enforcement, health professionals, and advocacy groups are critical to safeguarding the well-being of elders and dependent adults; and
WHEREAS, the County of Lake is committed to protecting elders and dependent adults through the dedicated efforts of our local Adult Protective Services agency and law enforcement partners; and
WHEREAS, observing Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness Month provides an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to protecting vulnerable populations and to encourage all residents to take an active role in prevention and reporting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Lake County Board of Supervisors, along with the Lake County Department of Social Services, hereby designates June 2026 as Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness Month in Lake County.
