Subject: Presentation of Proclamation Designating the Month of October 2025 as Head Start Awareness Month in Lake County

Executive Summary:

DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 2025 AS
HEAD START AWARENESS MONTH IN LAKE COUNTY

WHEREAS, Head Start was part of the War on Poverty launched in 1964, however, Head Start officially began in 1965 and is a nationally, federally funded early childhood development program that serves children and families and whose purpose is to help children achieve their full potential; and
WHEREAS, Head Start provides comprehensive health, nutritional, educational, social services, family and community development and meaningful parent involvement; and
WHEREAS, Head Start focuses on children's language development, early literacy, social skills, and providing their parents the skills in becoming their child's first and best teacher; and
WHEREAS, Head Start is committed to the development of each child and provides preventative and early intervention services to children and families regardless of their economic status.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED, the Lake County Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim the month of October 2025 as Head Start Awareness Month.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Lake County Board of Supervisors recognizes that the needs of children and families in Lake County must become top priority for the future decision makers by investing financial resources and talent in the support of health, mental health, educational disabilities, early childhood education, child abuse and neglect, and family trauma sensitive care.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Lake County Board of Supervisors encourages all parents of preschool age children to participate in literacy activities, such as reading a book with your child, attending a play with your child, and going to the library with your child d...
