Executive Summary:

California Friday Night Live Month

Whereas, The Friday Night Live program, which was established in 1984 as the model program for the State of California in engaging young people as active leaders in their communities to reduce underage alcohol use and address other challenges faced by their peers by building partnerships for positive youth development; and

Whereas, The Friday Night Live program ensures that youth partners from grade 4 through grade 12 benefit from the continued growth and enhancement of this youth-led, youth-driven program and the unique opportunities it provides; and

Whereas, Youth in Friday Night Live programs experience an environment that provides for physical and emotional safety, which allows them to express their authentic selves; and

Whereas, Youth participants learn about their communities through participatory action research and meaningful engagement with stakeholders, leading to positive connections and interactions that contribute to healthier environments; and

Whereas, Youth leaders in Friday Night Live programs have opportunities to participate in decision-making processes, express their opinions constructively, hear those of others, and take action on issues they are passionate about; and

Whereas, Participants build caring and meaningful relationships with their peers and adult allies that support a sense of belonging and connectedness to their school and broader community; and

Whereas, Youth partners experience opportunities to engage in interesting and relevant skill development activities that build resiliency, establish healthy attitudes and behaviors, and fosters academic success; and
