Subject: Approve Amendment No. 1 between the County of Lake and Lake County Resource Conservation District (LCRCD) for Tree Mortality Services and authorize the Chair to sign
Executive Summary: Your Board of Supervisors approved the contract with the Lake County Resource Conservation District (RCD) on July 7th and those amendments have been made. During review of the amendments with the RCD, they also wanted to update language under 1.2 "Disposal" which currently states:
* No trees showing indicators of Mediterranean Oak Borer* presence will be left on site, nor will any materials be left on County property or in the County right of way without written permission from Lake County Public Works.
To be amended to state:
* All trees exhibiting signs of Mediterranean Oak Borer* presence will be handled per best practices. No materials will be left on County property or in the County right of way without written permission from Lake County Public Works.
Because Mediterranean Oak Borer (MOB) is still considered a new invasive pest, methods to safely dispose of MOB-infested wood continue to be updated by forest professionals. (For instance, it was previously thought a best practice would be to leave the infested wood on site, securely cover it with a dark-colored water-proof tarp and leave the wood covered for months would mitigate the threat, it was discovered that it did not, so is no longer recommended).
Changing the wording of how they will dispose of the wood will allow the RCD to follow current best practices for disposal.
