Date: February 10, 2026

To: The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors

From: Jenavive Herrington, Auditor-Controller/Clerk

Subject: Approve travel exceeding 1,500 miles for Dakhota Hockett, Assistant Auditor Controller, to Attend Annual Comprehensive Financial Reporting Training in Chicago Illinois

Executive Summary:

The Auditor's Office is requesting approval to send Ms. Hockett to training by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

GFOA is the foremost expert in governmental accounting, and they issue the Certificate of Achievement award for ACFRs throughout the United States. GFOA is headquartered in Chicago Illinois, and Chicago is the only location offering the ACFR training.

The training available directly relates to Ms. Hockett's position, and the information she will learn will directly benefit the Auditor-Controller Office's ability to stay in compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board reporting standards. All efforts to reduce costs will be made.

Therefore, pursuant to 1.3E of the County of Lake Travel Policy, we respectfully request your Board approve travel exceeding 1,500 miles to facilitate Ms. Hockett accessing the valuable information at the training.
