Subject: Adopt Proclamation Designating May 2026 as CalFresh Awareness Month in Lake County
Executive Summary:
DESIGNATING MAY 2026 AS CALFRESH AWARENESS MONTH IN LAKE COUNTY
WHEREAS, CalFresh is a monthly benefit for food purchases that helps low-income residents gain access to healthy foods and participation can play a crucial role in improving the health and status of vulnerable populations; and
WHEREAS, every $1 in CalFresh generates $1.79 in local economic activity; and
WHEREAS, 15,870 individuals in Lake County are currently receiving CalFresh benefits totaling $2.9 million per month, $38.7 million in benefits over the course of the last year; and
WHEREAS, the County of Lake, Department of Social Services, recognizes the need to reduce hunger by increasing access to and participation in food assistance benefits, particularly for elderly, disabled, families and children, and is committed to an outreach and public awareness campaign that promotes equity and inclusion in access, and to increasing awareness of potentially eligible Lake County residents about the benefits of CalFresh.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED the Lake County Board of Supervisors does hereby designate May 2026 as CalFresh Awareness Month in Lake County.
