Subject: Acceptance of a donation from the Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake in the amount of $25,000
Executive Summary: The Sheriff's Department is requesting Board approval to accept a donation in the amount of $25,000 from the Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake (HPUL) Tribe. Over the past several years, the Lake County Sheriff's Office has partnered with the HPUL Tribe to bring training and awareness to law enforcement agencies in the arena of criminal investigations involving Native American lands and resources, as well as to bring awareness and increased interactions between law enforcement and Native communities. Previously received donations have been used to fund training in Public Law 280, Archaeological Crimes and Investigation, Cultural Awareness, and other topics. These trainings have been provided to not only Lake County based law enforcement, but to law enforcement agencies across the state. In accepting this donation, it is the intent of the Sheriff to use these funds to facilitate additional, similar training in Lake County.
These funds will be allocated in the Sheriff/Coroner budget 2201 for Fiscal Year 2022/23. An adjustment will be made during final budgets in September.
