DATE: January 3, 2017
SUBJECT: Adopt Resolution Approving a Request from Lake County Health Services Department to Submit an Application for Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Capacity Building Funds Through the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) and Authorizing the Director of Health Services to Sign Said Application

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The Health Services Emergency Preparedness Program was recently contacted by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) regarding a grant funding opportunity for Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) units. The funding is available through a cooperative agreement between NACCHO and the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) (grant #15 HITEP1150032-02-00). Selected MRC units will receive MRC Challenge Awards of up to $13,000.
The MRC Challenge Award is designed to encourage MRC units to identify and implement innovative projects that align with nationally recognized health initiatives, are significant at the local level and demonstrate capability within the MRC network.
The Lake County MRC attained accreditation in April of 2007 from the Office of the Surgeon General and currently has approximately 17 volunteers consisting of Registered Nurses, Dentists, Veterinarians and non-medical volunteers. The goal for Health Services is to continue to develop and train the MRC volunteers so that they are prepared to respond in the context of our local emergency response plans.
