SUBJECT: Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Hammers for Hope and the County of Lake
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Hammers for Hope is a local nonprofit originally established to provide charitable assistance to low and moderate income households in Lake County through a program of home rehabilitation, improvement and weatherization services. Hammers for Hope has applied for and received a $4,600,000 CalHOME Grant to assist wildfire survivors with housing rehabilitation and rebuilding. Hammers for Hope is well suited to administer the CalHome loan program for low income families who lost their homes to wildfire, and will serve as a great partner in local long-term recovery.
Your board approved a letter supporting Hammers for Hope as an applicant to administer local CalHOME Grant funds on October 18, 2016. Staff is presenting an MOU between H4H and the County that will allow the County to support and assist H4H. The County will assist in consultant selection and administration of the CalHOME Grant for eligible Valley and Clayton fire survivors to improve the health, safety, and welfare of the County’s disaster victims, and of all residents of the County by making the County of Lake whole again.
The County is committed to the long-term recovery of impacted communities. Lake County has a strong stake in the success of this CalHOME Grant program.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Staff recommends your Board approve the attached MOU between Hammers for Hope and the County of Lake, authorizing the County Administrative Officer to sign.
