SUBJECT:                     Adopt Proclamation Recognizing Lieutenant Steve Brooks on his Retirement after 23 years of service with the Lake County Sheriff's Office

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Whereas, Steve Brooks started his law enforcement career as a Correctional Officer in the Nevada Department of Prisons in 1991.  Steve came to work for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office as a Correctional Officer in 1994.  Steve served as the facility’s Safety and Security Coordinator where he earned himself a reputation for being able to locate contraband in the most difficult locations.

Whereas, Steve put himself through the Napa Valley College Police Academy and was promoted to Deputy Sheriff upon his graduation in 1997.  He was assigned to Patrol, and while in this assignment, his supervisors consistently noted his dedication and professionalism.  In 2000, Steve received the Sheriff’s Award for Meritorious Service after he and another deputy rescued a 74 year old man from a burning trailer.

Whereas, Steve was assigned to the Detective Bureau in 2001 as the Elder Abuse Investigator.  His hard work, compassion for victims, and ability to work collaboratively with prosecutors ensured that criminals who preyed on the elderly were brought to justice.   While assigned to Detectives, Steve also worked on high profile cases, and was even credited by a victim of an attempted homicide who had been stabbed 13 times with giving her “the courage to step out into the world again.”

Whereas, Steve served on the Marijuana Eradication Team for 10 years as both a member and as the unit leader.  He was responsible for the eradication of over 1,500,000 illegal marijuana plants on public and private lands in Lake County, with over 500,000 plants eradicated in one single year.

Whereas , Steve was promoted to Sergeant in 2010, and Lieutenant in 2012, where he has served as the Chief Deputy Coroner and Public Information Officer.  His efforts and dedication ensured the timely release of accurate and vital information to our communities during the devastating wildfire seasons in 2015 and 2016.

Whereas, Steve was awarded the POST Intermediate Certificate in 2004 and the POST Advanced Certificate in 2009.

Whereas, Steve has dedicated his life to public service and set an example of honor, dignity, dedication, respect and professionalism which reflects positively on himself, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and the law enforcement profession.

Whereas, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the County of Lake thank him for his service, and wish him the best in his well-deserved retirement.
