MEMORANDUM

TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
FROM: Denise Pomeroy
DATE: June 27, 2017
SUBJECT: Approve Long Distance Travel July 16, 2017 through July 22, 2017 to Anniston, Alabama for Pheakdey Preciado, Environmental Health Specialist III, Environmental Health Division

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Ms. Preciado has been invited to attend Environmental Health Training in Emergency Response through FEMA.
Our Environmental Health Specialists perform many critical functions during emergency response and recovery, such as conducting shelter assessments, testing drinking water supplies and performing food safety inspections.
This new course trains participants to identify problems, hazards, and risks, plan for team response; select appropriate equipment and instrumentation; perform required tasks using environmental health response protocols; and report and participate in follow-up activities as instructed. Most of the course involves hands-on operation practice and response to simulated events.
The purpose of this training is to increase the level of emergency preparedness of environmental health practitioners and other emergency response personnel by providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to address the environmental health impacts of emergencies and disasters.
Travel and all associated costs, including airfare, meals, airline baggage fees, ground transportation, hotel and airport parking are covered by DHS/FEMA. There is no cost to the Department or County.
As Health Services Director, I fully support Ms. Preciado's attendance.
