MEMORANDUM

TO: Board of Supervisors
FROM: Christopher Veach, County Librarian
DATE: June 20, 2017
SUBJECT: EXTRA ITEM #1 - Consideration of County Library (Lakeport Branch) closure during roof restoration project

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
I am requesting that the Lakeport branch of the Lake County Library be closed for the week of Tuesday, June 20th through Saturday June 27th due to the roof construction project. You may recall that your Board approved funds to replace the roof at the Lakeport Library at midyear. Fumes from this roof restoration make the library unsafe for patrons and staff. Construction noise and activity also make the facility unsuitable for providing library service during the construction project.

After a meeting on with the vendor on Monday, June 12th I believed it would be possible to remain open to the public during this roof construction project. New information from the vendor supplied on June 18th regarding the products being used has caused me to determine that it would be in the best interest of all for the library to remain closed during the construction.

Library patrons will still be able to access the library system at our other locations in Clearlake, Upper Lake, and Middletown and online from our website: http://library.lakecountyca.gov. Patrons will also be able to return their checked out items at the outdoor book return at the Lakeport branch. Lakeport Storytime, which occurs weekly on Friday, will be held in Library Park at its normally scheduled time.

The library will reopen when construction is complete but no later than Tuesday, June 27th at 10AM.
