MEMORANDUM
TO: Board of Supervisors
FROM: Moke Simon, District 1 Supervisor
DATE: June 27, 2017
SUBJECT: Consideration of Amendment No.1 to the Lease Agreement between the County of Lake and the Middletown Senior Citizens, Inc., for Lease of Buildings and Grounds located at 21256 Washington Street, Middletown, California.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Middletown Senior Center plays a critical role, offering senior citizens of Middletown a stable, safe space to gather. It has become a place of life-giving connection for so many, and a key defense against social isolation, which can threaten the long-term health and vibrancy of our elderly population. The Middletown Senior Center also provides important nutritional support, both through meals at the Center, and by bringing food to those who are homebound.
Director Lori Tourville recently reached out, and expressed a desire to extend the term of the Middletown Senior Center’s lease of County property at 21256 Washington Street, Middletown, California. Staff has appropriately negotiated this amendment.
I strongly support offering longer-term location security to this very important organization, and commend them for invaluable contributions to the community they serve. We can take a significant step to support their efforts by extending the term of their County lease.
