SUBJECT: Consideration and Approval of Out-of-Cycle Classification and Compensation Committee Findings and Recommendations
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
As your Board is aware, given the fiscal repercussions of two years of disastrous fires and last winter's storms, the County is not in a financial position to increase employees' salaries across the board. However, self-funded departments have financial resources not available to other departments. Three of these self-funded departments approached the Classification and Compensation Committee with requests to increase salaries for department-specific classifications and/or class series that have had a pattern of recruitment and retention issues.
Given the clear need to address long-time recruitment and retention issues when the County is fiscally able to do so, the Classification and Compensation Committee is recommending a 5% increase* for the following department-specific position classifications, with the exception of the Physical Therapist and Occupational Therapist. The Committee is recommending a 10% increase for the Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist positions.
