SUBJECT: Adopt Resolution Authorizing Acceptance of Proposition 99
Funding to Support the California Tobacco Control Program
in the Amount of $150,000 per Year Not to Exceed an Amount
of $600,000 for Fiscal Years 2017/2018 Through 2020/2021 and
Authorize the Health Services Director to Sign Grant Acceptance

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Health Services Department has received notification from the State of California, Tobacco Control Program, that grant funding for Fiscal Years 2017-2021 is available. Proposition 99 Funding will be used in conjunction with the State’s recently approved Proposition 56 funding.
The Health Services Department will continue our collaboration with community partners to identify and plan educational activities, focus on changing strategies rather than individual behaviors and continue to promote the statewide toll-free number for the California Smoker’s Helpline and the Stop Tobacco Access to Kids Enforcement (STAKE) Act.
Health Services, as the Local Lead Agency, is required under California’s Health and Safety Code to provide a Tobacco Education Program. We are requesting Board approval to accept Proposition 99 funding for Fiscal Years 2017-2021 and authorize the Director of Health Services to sign.
