SUBJECT: Approve Amendment to Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by and between the County of Mendocino and the County of Lake for Sealer of Weights and Measures Service (Mendocino County Agreement No. 17-048), and authorize the Department Head to sign.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
On July 25, 2107, your Board approved an MOU with the County of Mendocino, for the period July 1, 2017 - August 31, 2017. State law (Code Section 12200 of Business and Professions Code) requires that every county have an Agricultural Commissioner and Sealer. Currently, Mendocino County does not have a Sealer (due to retirement) and they have requested that I act as Interim Sealer until their position is filled. Under this MOU, Mendocino is paying Lake County $1500 per month for the services.
At the time of your original approval, staff advised that if Mendocino County is unable to fill the vacant Sealer position by August 31, 2017, this MOU could be extended until such time as a viable candidate is in place. Mendocino County is now requesting to extend the MOU for an additional two months, from August 31, 2017 through October 31, 2017.
The workload of the Interim Sealer is not negatively impacting my workload for Lake County.
It is anticipated that Mendocino County will also approve this Amendment on September 12, 2017.
