SUBJECT:                     Adopt Resolution Approving Lake County Health Services Department to Apply for Naloxone Distribution Project Grant for Fiscal Years 6/1/2017-6/30/2019 Through the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and Authorize the Health Services Director to Sign.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

In an effort to reduce the number of fatal overdoses in California from opioid drugs, the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) Safe and Active Communities Branch is offering non-competitive grants of naloxone product and funding for project administration to all local health jurisdictions in California.

Lake County is eligible to receive 310 doses of naloxone nasal spray (value of $11,600) and $580.00 for administration of the program. The prioritized use of this one-time grant is determined by local Public Health.

CDPH encourages distribution through recognized syringe exchange programs.    Lake County Public Health has reached out to Any Positive Change, the recognized syringe exchange program, as well as other potential recipients.   Any Positive Change has the capacity and established procedures meeting the statutory requirements for immediate implementation of this naloxone distribution project.

If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact either myself or Dr. Tait at 707/263-1090.
