SUBJECT:                      (Sitting as the Lake County Sanitation District, Board of Directors) - Consideration of Change Order No. 2 for the Southeast Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Headworks Improvement Project, Bid No. 15-08

 

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: One component of the project was to install knife valves on the outfall from the treatment ponds to the chlorine contact ditch.  This will allow the ability for the operators to isolate the ponds as needed and stop flow to the chlorine contact ditch for maintenance purposes.  The as-built record drawings for the plant indicated that the 24” ductile iron fittings at the outflow were flange x flange.  When the pond level was lowered in preparation for the work it was discovered that the fittings were not flange x flange but mechanical joint (MJ) x MJ.  As a result the ponds needed to be lowered further, the existing elbows needed to be removed and replace with MJ x flange fittings so the valves could be installed per plan at the elevation required.  This resulted in additional materials costs over $18,000 and additional labor costs to remove and replace the fittings.  The cost for the additional work is $27,835 with an allotment of an additional 14 days for the work.  This cost will be covered by remaining funding within the project budget allocated to contingencies

FISCAL IMPACT (Narrative): Approximately $40,000 remains in the project budget and are sufficient to cover the cost of this CCO.

(Sitting as the Lake County Sanitation District, Board of Directors) - Approve Contract Change Order #2 for an increase of $27,835.00, a revised contract amount of $414,047.07, an additional 14 days, and authorize the Chair to sign.
