SUBJECT: Approve Letter of Support for AB 550 (Reyes), Long-Term Care Ombudsman Funding
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
As your Board knows, the County of Lake’s Department of Social Services staffs the Long-Term Care Ombudsman program for the Area Agency on Aging of Lake and Mendocino Counties.
As your Board may also be aware, Assemblymember Eloise Gomez Reyes has authored AB 550, which would adjust the base amount for a local Long-Term Care (LTC) Ombudsman Program from $35,000 to $100,000.
This increase recognizes significantly inflated direct costs of LTC Ombudsman services due to the growing population of Californians receiving Long-Term Care. Additionally, it allows for the minimal level of supervisory staff needed to recruit, support and retain Ombudsman volunteers, who in turn protect and improve the lives of vulnerable California residents.
